Where the Lion Softens and the Lamb Stands Strong

For the moments when strength and tenderness must walk together.

Dear Beautiful Soul,

March always feels like a conversation that hasn’t decided how it wants to sound yet. One moment it arrives with a fierce wind that rattles the windows and wakes something alert inside you. The next moment it softens into sunlight that lingers just long enough to remind you that warmth is returning.

I’ve come to love this about March — not because it is predictable, but because it is honest. It shows us that life doesn’t move in straight lines. It moves in waves, just like we do.

Maybe you’ve felt that wave moving through you lately.

Some mornings you wake with a sense of quiet determination, like the lion within you is stretching awake, ready to step forward, ready to claim space you once hesitated to take. Other mornings feel softer. You move more slowly, your thoughts feel tender, and you wonder if something is wrong because you aren’t moving at the same pace as yesterday.

But what if nothing is wrong at all?

What if this is simply the rhythm of becoming — bold one moment, gentle the next — both guiding you in ways you may not fully understand yet?

The old saying that March comes in like a lion and leaves like a lamb has always felt less like folklore and more like a mirror of the human heart. We all carry these energies. There are times when we are called to be courageous — to speak with clarity, to hold boundaries, to take steps that feel a little uncertain but deeply true.

And then there are times when life asks us to soften — to listen instead of lead, to rest instead of push, to allow ourselves to be held by something quieter than effort.

But what if March isn’t asking you to choose?

There are seasons when the waves feel stronger than we expected. In those moments, the lion helps us stay anchored — reminding us of our truth, our boundaries, our steady ground. And the lamb softens what feels overwhelming, inviting the nervous system to slow, to breathe, to remember that safety still exists here.

Both are needed when life moves quickly, not as opposites, but as quiet companions walking beside you.

I wonder where you feel that right now.

Perhaps the lion shows up when you notice yourself saying no where you once would have said yes. Perhaps it appears when you choose honesty over comfort, or when you decide that your voice matters even if it trembles a little.

Courage doesn’t always roar.

Sometimes it is a quiet shift inside you that no one else sees — a decision to stay present instead of disappearing into old patterns.

Take a breath here for a moment and ask gently:

Where have I already begun to stand differently, even in small ways?

There is often more strength within you than you realize, and March has a way of revealing it slowly, like the earth thawing beneath the last traces of snow.

And yet, just when you think you’ve found your footing, the season changes its tone.

The lion softens.

The pace slows.

You may feel drawn toward quieter moments — longer pauses, deeper reflection, softer conversations with yourself. This is the part of the wave many of us resist, because we’ve been taught to trust movement more than stillness.

Yet the lamb carries a different kind of wisdom.

Softness does not erase strength.
It refines it.

Because when the waves rise, strength alone can feel rigid, and softness alone can feel untethered. Together they create resilience — the ability to stand steady while also staying open.

The lion gives you direction.
The lamb gives you regulation.

And within that balance, something inside you learns how to move through challenge without hardening against yourself.

When you allow yourself to slow down, your nervous system begins to exhale. Your thoughts soften. You start to hear the quieter wisdom that lives beneath constant doing.

And sometimes, in those quiet spaces, you realize that the answers you’ve been searching for were never meant to arrive through force. They arrive when you create enough space to notice them.

What would it feel like to meet yourself with kindness this month — not as a reward for doing more, but simply because you are human and growing?

March teaches us that energy is not meant to stay the same.

One day may feel expansive, filled with ideas and movement. The next may feel inward, reflective, even uncertain.

Instead of seeing this as inconsistency, imagine it as a tide — rising and falling with its own intelligence.

The ocean never apologizes for changing direction.

Neither should you.

There may be a part of you that longs for steadiness — for a clear path that doesn’t shift beneath your feet. That longing is understandable.

But steadiness doesn’t always come from external conditions staying the same.

Sometimes it comes from learning to trust yourself within the change.

I often think about how nature moves during this time of year.

The trees do not rush their buds to open.
The soil warms slowly.
Everything happens in its own timing.

And maybe your life is unfolding in that same quiet way — changes happening beneath the surface, even when nothing looks different on the outside.

If you pause and look back over the past months, you may notice subtle shifts.

Perhaps you respond differently to situations that once felt overwhelming.

Perhaps you allow yourself to rest without the same level of guilt.

Perhaps you feel a new kind of clarity forming, even if you cannot yet put it into words.

These small changes are not insignificant.

They are signs that renewal is already underway.

Renewal rarely announces itself loudly.

It often begins as a quiet awareness — a moment when you realize that something inside you has softened, strengthened, or simply shifted.

And the more you notice these subtle movements, the more you begin to trust that you are growing in ways that matter.

There may also be moments this month when the waves feel confusing.

When you question your direction, your pace, or even yourself.

During those times, remember this:

Uncertainty is not a sign that you are lost.
It is often the space where deeper understanding begins.

You don’t have to solve everything right now.

You don’t have to define every next step.

Instead, you might try walking beside yourself with curiosity.

Notice how your energy changes throughout the day.
Notice what brings a sense of ease and what feels heavy.

Let these observations guide you more than expectations ever could.

The lion and the lamb both live within you for a reason.

Especially when life feels uncertain or intense.

The lion reminds you that you are capable of meeting what comes.
The lamb reminds you that you don’t have to force your way through.

When the waves feel high, it isn’t about becoming stronger or softer.

It’s about allowing both to guide you back to steadiness.

And maybe that is the deeper lesson of this season.

Not to control the waves…
but to learn how to move with them.

Not to choose between strength and softness…
but to allow both to shape you.

So when the weather shifts — when the wind rises or the sun warms your face — let it remind you that change is natural.

You are allowed to evolve at your own pace.

You are allowed to move in waves.

You are allowed to be bold one day…
and gentle the next.

Both belong.

With warmth, compassion, and deep belief in your unfolding,
Marianne
